splash day

.

Iris and her momma met up with some other babies and their mommies and spent the afternoon splashing in the coolest toddler pool EVER! This pool was huge and the little people reveled in biggest bathtub they'd ever seen. Princess actually got confident enough to stand on her own, get in and out of the pool quite frequently alone, and walk holding just one hand. It was cute to watch the social interactions of these babies with each other. They have no sense of boundaries, being politically correct, or keeping emotions in check.

Iris suddenly became enamored with a little boy, crawled over to him, gave him a kiss on the cheek, took his ball and crawled away. He didn't seem to mind, but I found it amusing that the mommies tended to get more upset than the babies when they took each other's toys. One little girl kept touching Iris' curly hair, and seemed quite bewildered, touching her own hair afterwards. I love this innocent curiosity that babies have. Grown-ups tend to get uncomfortable and nervous, over-explain their babies behavior to other mommies, and forever remind their babies to return the toys to their rightful owners.

Eh. It's all community property as far as I'm concerned: toys, hair, food, kisses, water. I really just enjoy sitting back and watching these little guys do their own thing. One should be so lucky to be a baby.

Plotting to take over the world, they are.

Iris did a lot of "bear crawling." Poor baby. This resulted in little red blisters on her toes.
She never complained once!

One-year olds do a lot of "parallel play." This is fancy for playing solo next to another kid playing solo. They periodically touch base with each other to make sure everyone's on the same page.

See? Touching base.

And off we go. Solo again.

Thank you Princess, for a beautiful day with lots of laughs, giggles, and smiles.

  1. This looks like a very cool spot. We'll all have to go there during the summer.
